Flexia and Funivia selected ADI Index 2022

8 March 2023

Flexia by Mario Cucinella and Funivia by Carlotta de Bevilacqua are among the products selected by the ADI Design Index 2022 and will compete for the XXVIII edition of the Compasso d’Oro in 2024. Both are a perfect example of Artemide‘s sustainable innovation.

“Flexia is a play of perceptions between the visible, material and coloured, and the invisible that becomes light”, Mario Cucinella.

Inspired by papyroflexia, the technique used to fold papyrus, Flexia recalls the Japanese art of origami. Flexia is a modular suspension luminaire that contributes to environmental quality through its sound absorption and its light, comfortable and compliant for office spaces in any position of use. It is sustainable through efficiency and the use of recycled and easily recyclable materials.

Funivia is an inclusive system that starts with the essentials, with a ‘mountaineering’ spirit it discovers a new level of freedom of light in spaces that now moves from indoors to outdoors. A rope, the cable that carries the energy, and nails, the fixing elements in the space, are the basis with which to go far, to overcome the limits given by the rigidity of the systems. On the cable, the system’s energy distribution channel and load-bearing element, several light modules are connected thanks to a universal hook that is the node of the immaterial network of light management with Artemide App. It is a sustainable principle in terms of production, distribution, installation, consumption, use, integration of elements that already exist without necessarily calling for the creation of new additional products.

“In Funivia, innovation is a sustainable dialogue that transcends the limits of all spatiality”, Carlotta de Bevilacqua.

In its historical path, Artemide has received numerous awards from the ADI Compasso d’Oro Prize, the latest and certainly among the most significant being those conferred on Ernesto Gismondi in 2018 for his Career and for the Discovery project, which interprets research, know-how and attention to the qualities of light for human wellbeing, values that have always guided Ernesto Gismondi not only in design but also in the company’s development.
