Maurizio Cagnoli brings his decades of experience in the world of metal subcontracting of furniture, revealing a sector made up of know-how and constant innovation, which allows increasingly functional and aesthetically beautiful solutions
One of the sectors that make up the universe of furniture is the metalworking one: legs for tables, feet for sofas and beds, bridge bars, ladders, as well as mechanisms for lifting the bed base are all examples of accessories that make the difference both aesthetically and functionally. Maurizio Cagnoli, at the helm of the Pesaro-based Metal Fly, has devoted his professional life to this part of the metal components dedicated to the made-in-Italy furniture sector. Cagnoli’s company has been operating for over 30 years in furniture subcontracting to produce custom-made items and hardware.
“We have advanced technologies and a production system that ensures quality according to the most demanding European standards. As we know – explains Cagnoli – the furniture market is constantly evolving, and it is now essential to offer new ideas and customized products. That is the goal of our company: to offer the most suitable solution for every possible need, developing, in addition to standard items, customized products following the customer’s requests and technical drawings. Our experience allows us to offer a wide range of items, always giving space to new visions to meet market demands».
Metal Fly’s work is part of an economic context that is anything but simple. But even better, it represents an example that frames the Italian industry in this sector, with its characteristics and the opportunities it offers.
“It is true, the metal industry is suffering – admits Cagnoli – an inconvenience due also to competition with foreign countries that can employ staff under remarkably lower costs than ours. But for that, it is now necessary to focus on innovation. Despite the difficult conditions, I am proud to say that our company has maintained constant levels, achieving remarkable performance also in terms of annual turnover. I believe this is due to several factors, including the quality of a technologically advanced offer, production flexibility and speed of service. Flexibility has also become a determining factor because it is a great advantage for our customers to work with small batches: we can manufacture and supply even just a few hundred pieces. Quality control, then, is another essential element. Suffice it to say that we do an initial screening of the product’s raw condition to arrive at the end-of-processing checks carried out by our dedicated technicians. The result is the total lack of claims from customers, which determines the high level of our reliability”.
In Italy, there are not many companies in the metal engineering sector specialising in subcontracting metal for furniture with these characteristics.
“However, this does not mean that we can ride the gravy train – Cagnoli points out − now well-made products come from different parts of the world, let’s take Poland, Turkey and China as an example. It means that we must continue to be always one step ahead, offering technological products with a high-quality price ratio. This is why we are investing in new tools that allow for more automation and reduce processing, so that the product can be less expensive and more competitive, especially considering the increased cost of energy and raw materials. Suffice it to say that a company like ours uses about three hundred tons of iron per month. From a strictly aesthetic point of view, we have noticed that the market today prefers square lines, with less roundness than in the past and greater attention to the use of colours that tend to follow fashions. – continues Cagnoli − When you launch a new product, you can be sure that the colour choice differs from the previous year. And speaking of colours, another aspect that distinguishes us is the painting system that we can use in different ways, with as many as 140 colours available to meet the most diverse needs”.
The results of this continuous evolution, the commitment to adapt the offer to market needs and the experience in the sector have guided Metal Fly to expand its offer. The new production will be showcased in Cologne, at Interzum (HALL10.2 STAND G055).
