Formal neatness and geometric vigour are the focus of the intervention on this 1960s villa, situated in green surroundings a stone’s throw from the sea in Forte dei Marmi (Italy). Refurbished at various times, it had belonged to a major international leather goods manufacturer. The new owners had chosen to entrust the revision to Pelizzari Studio, sharing the philosophy of the design choices.
The perimeter surfaces alternating with the verandas are interrupted by Teak batten wings, shielding the house from direct summer sunlight. Just as much purity dominates the interiors, redesigned as airy spaces in which linear, neutral-textured furnishings prevail, almost as if the marine environment were one with the domestic one. Entering, we are surprised by the living room with the generous sofa and the iconic Eames armchair, in light colours, juxtaposed with elements designed by Pelizzari Studio, such as the iron and travertine coffe table, the beveled Teak cabinet or the vintage armchairs resting on a black and white wool Berber rug.
A surprising work by Sabine Marcelis, almost a mirror reflecting the nature that enters overwhelmingly through the large windows. Everything is light in a succession of interior/exterior to which only the sea breeze acts as a trait d’union. This character was accentuated by placing Kettal furniture in the verandas running all around the villa. Living, dining and leisure areas wind their way down to the lawn, among the trees.
The sleeping area is also designed with the same light punctuation. The bedrooms, almost Franciscan, echo the same concept. Beds with basic fabrics rest against teak-clad walls. Foam-coloured cushions dialogue with small night tables, as if to gracefully celebrate the value of the uniqueness of this seaside retreat.
