Artemide reissues Sintesi by Ernesto Gismondi
For over sixty years, Artemide has been an international benchmark in the world of lighting design, synonymous with research, innovation, and design culture. Founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi, the company has always combined technological expertise with a poetic vision of light, creating products that have become true classics of contemporary design.
Among these, Sintesi holds a special place. Introduced in 1975, it was the first Artemide lamp designed by Gismondi himself. Today, it is being reissued as a tribute to his design philosophy and to the company’s ability to reinterpret its heritage with a contemporary outlook. Conceived as an intelligent and modular system, Sintesi is based on a few simple components capable of generating an entire family of versatile, functional lamps. The table version, now back in production, represents the original core of the project. Its essential structure, composed of a few curved metal elements, reflects Artemide’s pursuit of balance between form and function.
Two C-shaped profiles of different lengths form a Y-shaped support which, through a simple opening and closing movement, allows the lamp’s height and inclination to be adjusted, offering freedom of orientation and versatility of use.The light source is housed within an adjustable frame fitted with an E27 socket, ensuring compatibility with evolving lighting technologies and long-term usability. A reflector and a protective grid complete the structure, reinforcing the project’s technical and functional character.
“It’s like a magic formula, and finding it is never guaranteed. You have to understand the needs of a particular moment in time. A product must be appreciated, meeting standards of beauty and harmony. But it also has to be manufactured and distributed, with the right price and market positioning,” said Ernesto Gismondi.
Sintesi stands out for its structural efficiency and sustainability: it can be easily folded flat, minimising volume and simplifying transport and packaging. Today, Artemide reintroduces Sintesi in a palette of colours that includes white, blue, green, and the new red finish, designed to highlight its contemporary personality and make it an ideal design gift for the festive season.
With the reissue of Sintesi, Artemide celebrates a pivotal chapter in its history, reaffirming a philosophy that unites technical innovation, industrial quality, and design culture – a perfect balance of engineering and beauty that continues to transcend time.
