Where the project takes shape, transforms and looks ahead
On 11 and 12 November 2026, ARCHITECT@WORK returns to Milan, to the Allianz MiCo, bringing a different way of experiencing innovation in design back to the centre of the scene.
Not the classic Fair to be crossed in a hurry, but an event designed to be explored carefully, where every element – from exhibitors to layout, from materials to content – is built to offer quality, inspiration and time well spent.
The reason is just that you don’t just come to see products, but to understand what is really happening in contemporary architecture.
One of the aspects that makes ARCHITECT@WORK so recognisable is its format.
No shouted stands or chaotic set-ups. Everything is designed to put what really matters in the foreground. The products are selected by an independent jury and presented in uniform, essential, easy-to-read spaces.
No friction, along clear paths, among proposals that have already passed an initial qualitative evaluation. This means less wasted time and more space to discover, ask questions, and dig deeper.
And then the lounge areas, integrated into the path: informal places to stop, talk, discuss with colleagues and companies. This is where the most interesting conversations often arise, the ones that remain even after the event.
This year’s theme, “LIVING SPACE”, tells of a change that those who design perceive more and more clearly.
Spaces are no longer static. Buildings are not, interiors are not, materials are not. Everything tends to evolve, adapt, react. Houses change with those who live in them. The offices are transformed over the course of the day. Materials respond to climate, light, use. Designing today means coming to terms with this complexity, but also with the opportunities it brings.
ARCHITECT@WORK Milano 2026 tries to tell it in a concrete way, putting together products, examples and content that help to read this transformation closely.
Among the essential stages of the journey, the Action & Reaction exhibition, curated by Baolab.
Here the theme of “living space” becomes tangible: materials and surfaces show active behaviour, react to environmental conditions, participate in the quality of the space.
It is one of those experiences that work because they do not need too many explanations: you observe, touch, immediately understand that something is changing.
And often you come out with a new question in your head – or with an idea to bring directly into the project.
Alongside the exhibition, the program of meetings “Changing architecture” offers the opportunity to stop and deepen.
The talks, curated by Design Diffusion Network (DDN) and the Fondazione Ordine degli Architetti di Milano, address the most current issues of contemporary design with an accessible but never banal slant, useful both for orientation and for taking home concrete ideas.
And it is not a detail: all seminars give access to professional training credits, making the visit even more useful and targeted.
Because it’s one of those events where you don’t have to look too much – the interesting things are already selected for you.
Because it allows you to see innovations up close that would otherwise remain on paper.
Because it offers the right balance of discovery, comparison, and updating.
And because – perhaps most of all – it is an opportunity to get out of the routine, take a little distance from the projects in progress and return with a more open look.
ARCHITECT@WORK is not just an event to visit.
It is a space in which to stop for a moment, look at what is changing and understand how this change can enter into one’s own way of designing.
If you work with space, in all its forms, it is difficult to get out of it without having found something useful.
