THE TRANSITION OF LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY AMID ENERGY EFFICIENCY, WELL-BEING AND SMART INNOVATION
The ASSIL (Associazione Nazionale Produttori Illuminazione) members’ General Assembly, federated with ANIE Confindustria, has renewed its full confidence in the outgoing President Carlo Comandini (CEO of Vossloh-Schwabe Italia S.p.A.), confirming him at the helm of the Association for the period 2026-2028. Together with the President, the Assembly confirmed the Board of Directors to ensure maximum institutional continuity in a complex macroeconomic phase that requires prudence, but which sees companies looking to the future with moderate optimism, strengthened by their role as the second largest production hub of the European Union. Under the leadership of Comandini, the Association, which represents over 90 leading companies able to generate a global turnover of about 2.1 billion euros (over 68% of the national market), consolidates a positioning that goes far beyond the merely technical dimension of the appliance, placing itself as a driving force of innovation, sustainability and well-being for people.
Comandini’s Presidency program for the next two years develops along a path of deep strategic evolution, aimed at capitalising and translating into concrete results the development activities of the sector and the diffusion campaigns recently launched. At the heart of this vision is the industry’s transition to lighting as an interconnected digital infrastructure. The Association intends to lead the development of Smart Cities and modern Building Automation systems, integrating smart lighting systems within digital networks. This technological approach goes hand in hand with a strong focus on the human dimension: the design of light is reaffirmed as a determining factor for psychophysical well-being and the quality of daily life in the various man-made spaces.
In line with the national and European sustainability objectives dictated by the PNIEC and the PNRR, ASSIL will intensify the programs dedicated to the decarbonization and energy efficiency of industrial processes. In this context, the consolidation of the historic institutional collaboration with the GSE, aimed at supporting member companies along the entire production chain, will be fundamental. On the public and sports facilities fronts, the cycle of itinerant events related to enhancing smart lighting and promoting the adoption of advanced lighting technologies will continue with determination. The Association intends to propose itself as a technical partner of reference for institutions, designers and federations to accompany the necessary redevelopment in an LED and smart key of the vast public real estate heritage.
Finally, the competitiveness and growth of the sector will remain closely linked to the development of advanced skills. Through the historic “Training in Light” format, developed in synergy with AIDI, and the technical roadshows focused on emergency lighting carried out in collaboration with CEI, UNI and the National Fire Brigade, ASSIL will continue to invest in the technical culture and regulatory updating of professionals in the sector, guaranteeing the highest safety standards on the market.
ASSIL reconfirms its central commitment on national and international regulatory and certification tables (CEI, Cenelec, IEC, UNI, CEN, ISO, UL) and in the Lighting Europe Working Groups. For the Comandini Presidency, it is essential that the technological quality and demands of Italian manufacturing – the second EU production hub – obtain adequate importance in Europe through representation actions shared with the main continental partners, defending the quality of our products from unfair competition and at the same time protecting the specificities and needs of small and medium-sized enterprises.
“I thank the Assembly for the renewed trust”, said Carlo Comandini. “The market asks us to be ready to manage complex scenarios and sudden evolutions. Our goal for the next two years is to consolidate the centrality of ASSIL as a reference interlocutor for the ecological and digital transition of the sector. We will systematise the know-how of our companies to guide a lighting design that knows how to combine the maximum performance of smart innovation with environmental sustainability and people’s well-being, enhancing the excellence of our companies in markets all over the world.“
