A work of aesthetic minimalism and technical sophistication, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec’s modular light system Belt will compete for the next edition of the Compasso D’Oro
With its elegance and sinuous lines, Belt – the latest light creation by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec for Flos – has been included in the list of exclusive products selected for the ADI Design Index 2021, earning a place alongside the design objects that will compete for the next edition of the Compasso D’Oro. The ultimate way to celebrate a long-standing collaboration between Studio Bouroullec and Flos, which has already led to a number of great successes, with decorative products and bespoke designs alike.
Lightness and rigour, aesthetic simplicity and technical ingenuity make Belt an ideal candidate for the Permanent Design Observatory, which once again has recognised Flos products as the expression of the very best in Italian design. On several occasions Flos has been shortlisted for the prestigious ADI Design Index, and in the last edition of the Compasso d’Oro alone it was awarded twice, for Michael Anastassiades’ innovative collection Arrangements and for the Arco lamp by the Castiglioni brothers, which was awarded the Product Lifetime Achievement Award almost sixty years since its creation.
On display from 28th October to 7th November at the ADI Design Museum in Milan (and then in Rome) along with 200 other objects chosen by the Industrial Design Association as representative of outstanding Italian design, Belt is an architectural lighting system made up of linear rigid elements concealing LED beams and belt-like straps in natural leather that carry the electricity and act as suspension, with metal buckles to make them height-adjustable. Flexibility is the heart of this collection. A harmonious synthesis of opposites, combining the softness of beautiful artisanal leather with the rigidity of aluminium to create fluid lines whose strength is able to dismantle the rules of lighting.
Belt is available in a range of lengths and sizes and can be adapted to a wide variety of interior spaces.
