ABB Italia celebrates 80 years of ANIE

30 August 2025

A historic partnership that looks to the future of the energy transition

Last June, on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the ANIE Federation, ABB Italia participated in the “ANIE80” event. Thanks to a solid collaboration since 1945, ABB has received the ANIE plaque, an award dedicated to historic companies that have been part of the Federation’s network since its origins, collected by Gianluca Lilli, Senior Vice President of ABB Electrification Italia.

ABB Italia took part, as a historical partner, in the event “ANIE80 – For 80 years ANIE has been leading BEYOND”, celebrating the eightieth anniversary of the National Federation of Electrotechnical and Electronic Industries. The occasion reaffirms the central role of the Italian technology industry and to relaunch, together, the challenge of the double digital and ecological transition. During the day, which took place at the Confindustria Auditorium della Tecnica Congress Center, ABB received the ANIE plaque,  an award reserved for companies that have contributed significantly to the history and development of the electrotechnical and electronic sector, starting from 1945, the year the ANIE Federation was founded.

Gianluca Lilli, Senior Vice President of ABB Electrification Italia, collected the award. “Being part of ANIE, a Federation with 80 years of history, is a strategic value for ABB. In a complex global market, networking and sharing skills are essential for facing the challenges of the energy transition. ANIE represents for us an essential channel of dialogue with institutions and a hub for discussion between companies to promote development, innovation and sustainability.”

The event was attended by companies, academia and representatives of institutions – including Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprise and Made in Italy, and Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security – to explore the opportunities related to the double digital and ecological transition. A program full of speeches and networking moments made it possible to deepen the main development factors and future perspectives of the sector. During the day, the study “Towards a new European industrial competitiveness”, carried out by ANIE and The European House – Ambrosetti, with the support of the Intesa Sanpaolo Research Department, was presented.

Among the contributions was the data provided by ABB by Gianluca Lilli, which enriched the analysis. The study offers an in-depth analysis of the strategic role of the electrical and electronics industry in the current transformation phase. Lilli deepened the value of the long-standing collaboration between ABB and ANIE, by underlining the importance of being part of a network like ANIE’s, capable of promoting good practices comparison and sharing among companies. Lilli also highlighted how sustainability and business are fully integrated at ABB, presenting the points of the company’s Sustainability Agenda: creating a low-emission society, conserving resources and promoting social progress. Finally, the importance of investing in the technical scientific training of STEM talents in collaboration with the country system.

ABB Italia looks to the future with vision and commitment, continuing to promote cutting-edge, sustainable technological solutions at the Industry 5.0 service.  Together with ANIE, the company supports the energy and digital transition, boosting the sharing of know-how and the development of an industrial and competitive ecosystem.
