ASSIL: We Light The Sport

31 March 2026

Sports Lighting – Between Market Growth and Regulatory Challenges

The lighting sector for sports facilities is experiencing a moment of remarkable ferment and dynamism, driven by the technological evolution towards high LED efficiency and, above all, by a regulatory framework’s deep transformation. Now, the approach to light in sports is no longer standardised. It requires a functional and highly specific design that closely integrates with the additional requirements and recommendations established by sports bodies, such as CONI and Federations.

That complexity culminates in the testing and homologation process, with the Italian legislation in full development that also provides for the involvement of sports bodies to define a rigorous standard for sports fields validation and homologation.

Facing this scenario, ASSIL launches the project “We Light The Sport” to organise training, promotion and awareness events for the public and market opinion. The initiative aims to engage in dialogue on the challenges and opportunities that await the Italian sector, and to promote the adoption of advanced lighting technologies.

The central topics of the debate will be Smart Integration (dynamic and connected management systems to optimise consumption), the Reduction of Light Pollution in sensitive areas, solutions for Temporary Lighting/Overlay and finally the Glare analysis, i.e. standards and available technological solutions.

The initiative will involve all key players, from Public Administrations (Regions, Municipalities) to Financial Institutions (Sports Credit, GSE), up to experts from UNI/CONI/Federations.
