Salone del Mobile: 68% of visitors associate the word light with well-being

3 July 2025

That emerges from the “Image Your Light” survey promoted by ASSIL on the occasion of Euroluce

What is light for you? That is the question that ASSIL – the Italian National Association of Lighting Manufacturers – asked visitors to Euroluce 2025 through the “Image Your Light” engagement campaign, by inviting the participants of the Salone del Mobile in Milan to interpret this word from their perspective. The first connection made by people binds light to the concept of well-being. That opinion responds to 68% of the interviewed, who fully recognize its ability to improve their way of living in areas where they feel good.

For 31%, the association is with the word integration. A vision of light that places the integration of intelligent lighting systems with AI and IoT at the centre of the technological and innovative process. And it is precisely through connectivity that integrated lighting systems make it possible to improve efficiency and sustainability on the one hand and, on the other, ensure greater flexibility. For 22% of those interviewed, on the other hand, light is linked to the concept of energy. Energy efficiency is a crucial issue that the lighting industry is called upon to deal with by developing advanced management technologies and systems. Two other key concepts that emerged with the survey are size (15.3%) and safety (11.2%). Light gives volume to spaces and connotes them, makes an absence visible, and makes the space dynamic and alive. It is also essential to ensure people’s safety in environments or buildings in dangerous situations.

With this survey, we wanted to highlight the multiple meanings that revolve around the word light” – underlines Carlo Comandini, President of ASSIL. “We are satisfied with the wide participation that involved primarily manufacturing companies, industry professionals, designers and students who – with their answers – highlighted the trends that influence lighting design. The lighting industry has always been committed to developing innovative technical solutions made available to designers and lighting designers to create spaces capable of improving people’s well-being and visual comfort”.
