Digital printing on MDF and honeycomb doors for high-quality kitchens
Dictating the rules of the market means knowing how to anticipate times, explore new ideas and transform them into tangible solutions. With that spirit, Tonelli confirms itself as a dynamically future-oriented company, always ready for new challenges.
In the furniture and interior design sector, customisation and production flexibility have become fundamental strategic levers. Always in search of innovation, Tonelli presents a new industrial project: the application of high-definition digital printing directly on MDF ( Medium Density Fibreboard ) panels, precisely designed for small batches, special finishes and fine decorations. To develop this project, the company collaborates with Penta 95, a company specialised in the digital printing sector for over 30 years.
Historically, the production of decorative panels for the furniture and door industry has been based on analogue technologies (such as pressing melamine papers or veneers) or on large runs of printed finish papers. Traditional processes impose strict constraints, including high minimum batches, high installation costs and large storage areas.
The digital printing technology applied to the MDF substrate breaks down these barriers, combining MDF mechanical stability and workability with digital printing expression freedom. Among the main advantages:
The project was created to respond to the growing demand for custom-made solutions from architects, interior designers and furniture manufacturers, completing the wide range of tailor-made processes offered by Tonelli for the furniture sector. A dedicated area has indeed been set up in the San Marino plant, equipped with high-performance machinery – including a 5-axis machining centre – to perform specialised processes such as cutting, edging (also on curved panels), drilling, dowel and nesting processes for the creation of curved, shaped elements and finished components for furniture (doors, wall units, base units and other elements).
A structured service to support contract projects of all sizes, with the care and quality that have distinguished the Tonelli brand for over 80 years. From prototyping to mass production, Tonelli is a reliable and competent partner, capable of supporting the customer at every process stage.
The big news this year is represented by the lightweight honeycomb doors produced by Italton, a company of the Tonelli Group. Compared to traditional chipboard or MDF doors, whose weight compromises adjustability, the tightness of the hardware and, above all, flatness over time, the honeycomb structure, produced with advanced technology, offers a light and extremely stable alternative, ideal for large doors. Thanks to the collaboration with the main manufacturers in the kitchen and furniture sector, this lightweight and high-performance solution has been developed and will be previewed at SICAM.
Tonelli and Italton are at SICAM 2026, in Pordenone from 20 to 23 October, in Hall 7 – Stand A26/B27, to allow visitors to see first-hand all their presented innovative solutions.
