In Sanremo, Vimar technology at the service of a rediscovered icon
Overlooking Corso Imperatrice, with a privileged view of the Ligurian Sea and the Casino, the Europa Palace Hotel is an integral part of Sanremo’s history and golden age. Its origin coincides with the arrival of the railway, in 1874, when the station, built right in front of the building, inaugurated a new season for the “city of flowers”, consecrating it among the most sought-after climatic destinations in the Mediterranean. Originally known as the “Hotel Europe et de la Paix”, the hotel quickly became one of the first examples of international hospitality on the Riviera. Aristocrats, nobles and travellers of the European elite stayed there, attracted by the mild climate, elegant gardens and a lively and cosmopolitan social life.
In the twentieth century, the structure underwent a series of interventions, up to the recent redevelopment carried out by the Lagorio family, which marked its rebirth as a Five-Star Boutique Hotel. The project, signed by Studio Calvi Ceschia Viganò and completed in 2025, involved both the interior spaces and the external facades of the building, expanding its volumes with the inclusion of a fifth floor with a panoramic terrace and a spa in the basement. Today, the structure has over 70 rooms, including elegant suites and junior suites overlooking the sea and the Casino.
The interior design, curated by Studio Q-BIC, interprets bright and welcoming environments with natural materials and cutting-edge technological solutions, in a measured balance of aesthetic research, comfort and functionality. Vimar fits into this context with the Eikon Exé series, in the Collections variant: a perfect synthesis of technological precision and craftsmanship, available in different materials and prestigious finishes, from stone to metal, and glass. Each environment is enhanced through a unique personality. The exclusive taste of Eikon Exé and its control variations, Traditional, Vintage, Flat and Round (the latter recently awarded with the Compasso d’Oro International Award), also available in the KNX and By-me Plus versions for home & building automation, give the electrical system a unique style.
The renewal process, aimed at offering guests an authentic wellness experience, is completed, on the other hand, through the adoption of an advanced KNX hotel management system, with integration of Vimar solutions, installed by Capponi Gianpiero Impianti Elettrici and developed by Big Srl, under the supervision of Ing. Andrea Maineri. An articulated and technologically advanced system, designed to enable smart hospitality in full respect of the architectural identity of the building. Check-in and check-out, presence status, lights and temperature control, technical alarms and emergencies management: each function can be programmed and monitored from the reception, the true structure’s operational hub.
Intelligent technology that simplifies the staff’s work and improves the guests’ experience, allowing them to enjoy their stay in total comfort. By inserting the card into the transponder reader, lighting automatically activates, the temperature adjusts according to the guests’ preferences, while signalling their presence at the reception.
