MAVIS, beyond a simple profile:

Tailor-made co-design to answer the challenges of contemporary furniture

From ideas to technical profiles: the mould workshop as an engineering hub

Within the furniture and furnishing accessories industry, the product development phase frequently finds itself at a crossroads: on the one hand, the importance of aesthetics and performance defined by designers, and on the other, the strictness of standard production processes. Transforming a complex concept, or a render, into an extruded profile, free of dimensional defects and ready for the assembly line, requires skills that go far beyond simple plastic transformation. For technical offices and designers, the true criticality often lies in the coupling tolerances and the material’s mechanical response.

In this scenario, Mavis is not just a supplier, but a strategic co-designing partner. The strength lies in the internal mould workshop, the department where the extrusion matrix is studied and calibrated to the specific customer tolerances. This mechanical imprinting makes it possible to develop complex profiles by eliminating the polymer’s internal tensions and ensuring the geometric stability of the finished product.

Cost Engineering: replacing metals with technical polymers

A standout trend in the furniture and refrigeration industries revolves around pursuing enhancements that prioritise efficiency while preserving strong quality impressions. More and more often, the answer lies in replacing metal with extruded plastic.

Replacing traditional Aluminum or metal components with advanced technical polymers offers multiple advantages:

  • Overall weight reduction of the products, with a favourable impact on logistics.
  • Complex function integration in a single step: co-extrusion allows rigid materials to be joined with soft inserts (such as TPE or TPV seals).
  • Simplified assembly: the integrated soft sections avoid the need to apply manual adhesive gaskets on the customer’s assembly line, thus ensuring perfect thermal and acoustic sealing with a drastic reduction in installation times.

Case study: solving acoustic problems for partition walls

The efficiency of co-design and the proper polymer choice finds its maximum expression in solving sealing problems.

A leading manufacturer of office partition walls needed to pass strict acoustic certification tests. The first tests conducted with standard gaskets did not provide the expected results. After repeated compression cycles, the gasket lost its elastic memory, generating micro-cracks through which sound passed. Mavis’ technical department redesigned the section of the profile by introducing a co-extruded TPE gasket with high elastic recovery (low compression set), optimising the geometry of the sealing lips. The result: the new geometry guaranteed the profile’s perfect shape memory even after hundreds of opening/closing cycles. The customer passed the acoustic insulation tests and obtained the required certification.

That demonstrates how the final performance does not depend solely on the material chosen, but on the overall gasket engineering.

Applied sustainability: new range of regenerated profiles at SICAM 2026

The technical evolution of plastic profiles is unavoidably intertwined with the ecological transition. At SICAM 2026, at its exhibition area, Mavis presents a dedicated selection of profiles made of regenerated plastic material (PIR and PCR).

Going beyond the theoretical recycling vision, the regenerated polymer solutions developed by Mavis prove how it is possible to integrate high percentages of recycled material from industrial or post-consumer waste while maintaining the necessary dimensional stability, aesthetic performance and processability for the furniture sector.

Mavis Profili is present at SICAM Pordenone (20-23 October 2026) – Hall 9 | Stand B1, where visitors can experience firsthand the co-extruded profile samples, regenerated plastic solutions and meet with process technicians
