Flexibility and customisation at the service of the historic site of Livorno and its wonderful scenery
The medieval castle that stands on a promontory overlooking the sea, immersed in the splendid Livorno coast setting, underwent renovation works completed in 2025, developed by Tono Architettura & Interior Design studio.
For the outdoor lighting project, the classic Avenida lanterns were indeed selected to highlight the beauty and elegance of the historic structure. The modernisation included the access avenues, those surrounding the park, and different areas, redesigned by architect Carlotta Giusti.
The need was to re-evaluate the area, enhancing the distinctive features, and to select a lighting fixture with its light that could mix the classic scene, the Castle’s history and nature, the wonderful scenery, and the warm colours of the surrounding greenery.
For the reasons above, the choice fell on the classic Avenida lantern by Sovil. The high performance of the various optics available for resistance, the surface treated, as for all SOVIL devices, with an anti-corrosive cataphoresis process and the Corten colour finish, which integrates perfectly with the building environment and architecture, certainly had a relevant specific weight in the preference. As per the designer’s needs, surface finish, optics used, high-efficiency and durable LED technology with a warm colour temperature of 2700°K, have been designed and customised ad hoc. The result reflects a unique and evocative atmosphere, even more enhancing the beauty of Castel Sonnino, which was, anyway, enchanting for its structure and location. The lighting design planned two objectives, then integrated them: functional safety lighting and architectural lighting for the site enhancement at night.
The chosen luminaires are classic street lanterns with specific features required by the designer, fulfilled by the product’s versatility and SOVIL’s ability to adapt its lighting fixtures to the specific project requirements. SOVIL technicians have indeed supported and assisted the design studio during all the design phases, contributing with their flexibility and ability to promptly modify their products to fully meet the client’s needs.
The devices’ fine-tuning and installation were carried out thanks to the collaboration with one of SOVIL’s local distributors, “L’elettrica” in Eboli.
An intervention developed also by the various interlocutors who shared this project with SOVIL, and in particular, Castel Sonnino’s property, for their availability and kind collaboration.
A prestigious and demanding achievement for SOVIL, which contributes, with other important projects already carried out, or in the process of being defined, to carrying out the company’s mission: to illuminate prestigious outdoor spaces and transform them into people’s well-being scenarios.
